CORONAVIRUS : As this situation is currently foremost in our thoughts, I wanted to let you know that we are still open. Please rest assured that any items leaving our workshop are wiped before and after packing before delivery to the post office, and of course we recommend wiping everything that arrives in the post .. it's certainly something we are doing.
As birthdays and anniversaries do arise throughout this period, online purchases are certainly an alternative option for that special gift. If you see something you think a loved one would like, you are very welcome to email us at email@example.com to provide a specific date and address for delivery, then we can post out the item direct.
Royal Mail have now updated their prices, so I have altered the postage prices accordingly.
Further events have been cancelled, but we're keeping fingers crossed for later in the year! Keep watching the events list on here.
Also, galleries are now closed until further notice, but some do provide an online service, so please check on their websites.
Keep safe and well, and Stay at Home!!!
As always our feathered and four-legged friends are presenting daily inspiration, so I'm hoping to reflect this in new pieces.
Saw blades are stocked up, thank goodness, and the workbench is full of templates, wips and pieces waiting to be hallmarked.
I will add new items to the website shop as and when they are hallmarked and ready for posting. I hope you enjoy taking a look. I have listed each item under its jewellery type for ease of scrolling, but also have themed lists too.
As mentioned above, the situation regarding events is very much up in the air at present. Please keep an eye on our events page for further information.
Thank you for your continued support of small businesses, particularly during these testing times.
Snuggled amongst the West Yorkshire Pennine landscape, our home and surroundings provide the perfect inspiration for Ruth Makes Jewellery. My partner, Jez Coates, and I, Ruth Sutcliffe, create unique handmade silver jewellery to reflect the love we have for our local landscape, wildlife and our own pets. Natural shape, form and drama appear in my landscape, woodland and hedgerow pieces. Jez has expanded his mythical creatures and norse themes.
New this year, Jez is recycling our off-cuts to create a collection of gents grooved jewellery. The designs use strong, simple lines which he oxidises to create a dark contrast to the satin or polished finish of the surface of the jewellery. Each design emerges organically making the creation an enjoyable process, and the final results very striking and attractive.
In fact, much of our jewellery would be suitable for both ladies and gents, and creating handmade jewellery allows us to offer an individual, personal experience which our customers find appealing in these days of mass production. So, please do not hesitate to get in touch if you have something bespoke in mind .. I am happy to provide no-obligation ideas and a quote. I will always be honest if it is not possible for us to create your request.
All our jewellery is hand sawn from sterling silver sheet, or individually hand cast using our own recycled silver, with contrasting elements of copper and brass making the occasional appearance. This ensures the individuality of each piece of jewellery. The fascination of watching the oxidisation process during soldering never diminishes, and creates beautiful atmospheric finishes.
Where required, our work is hallmarked at the Birmingham Assay Office using our own Ruth Makes Jewellery RS and JC laser marks.
Our jewellery is presented in matte black gift boxes made from recycled materials. The boxes are not marked so customers can re-use them to continue the recycling process.
We hope you enjoy browsing through our handmade jewellery. We love providing a truly personal experience and meeting our customers during the year's events, so thank you! (See 'Stockists and Events')
